Bored!

No, not me - I don't have time to be bored! But Colin is!

I decided to make a morning visit yesterday on my way to my mother's and when I turned up one of the carers said she'd just been into Colin's room to find out what he was shouting about - and the reason he gave? He wanted company!!! On entering his room, I asked Colin what was the matter and he said he was bored - he can't see so can't read, etc., or do anything as he's 'just stuck here'. And indeed he is!

I've been suspicious for some time that the reported 'agitation' was in fact irritation/frustration caused by boredom and not understanding the environment. Short of moving into Perrins myself I don't know what to do about this. What I do know is this whole situation is making the anxiety awful for Colin - and me, if I'm honest!

I try to visit from lunchtime onwards, so if anyone is able to visit in the mornings (say between 1045 and 1200 - meal arrives about 1200 so Colin needs no visitors then) that would really help things and thank you! But do let me know first, as I'll be able to advise if anyone else has a planned visit, or anything going on that I know of. (Try the calendar opposite!).

On the plus side and as anticipated, the specialist wheelchair arrived just over two weeks ago - just in time for winter! It got it's first, and so far only, airing outside when Colin's sister and brother-in-law visited and the latter was able to push Colin around the paths in the grounds. It would help if the main and larger lift was brought back into service, as the other one is very, very small and it's difficult getting Colin, chair and carer into it without removing Colin's toes!

There is still a battle going on with the medication/drowsiness/lack of sleeping. Ho hum!

Jane.
