He has his final session with the physio at Malvern Hospital for sort of Tai Chi aimed at improving his balance, which is still not that good. This however is variable and depends on the activity. For example, retrieving something off the floor usually results in a topple, as does turning around quickly or whilst doing something else - like walking - or even getting out of bed (as one day proved!). However, bowling skittles didn't pose such a problem probably due to the fact (as a GP friend pointed out) the positioning of the head and the focus of the eyes.
The skittles evening, by the way, last week was with the rambling group Colin used to go out with and was a very good evening. A little loud maybe - and for someone with a brain tumour this is a problem - so we sought refuge outside for a few stints, to get a break from the noise. However Colin proved that his skittling skills, albeit rather rusty, were still there.
This week has seen the long awaited appointment with an ENT consultant to find out what is wrong with Colin's hearing on the RHS. And, as highlighted in a previous blog comment by the partner of a fellow PCNSL sufferer, the problem appears to be radiotherapy induced fluid in the ear. Which is good news as it could have been something rather more nasty. So Colin awaits the insertion of a grommet, which was the recommended course of action other than using a hearing aid. We shall update on this when it's happened.
This Tuesday we attended the Gloucestershire Hammer Out Brain Tumours Support meeting at Maggie's in Cheltenham. As always another really useful session and (again) a pity we had to leave early to get to Colin's appointment with the ENT consultant in Worcester. Although before we left the discussion was around radiotherapy induced deafness - something which Colin was not warned about as a side effect.
The big--ee is coming up next week - Friday is the next scheduled MRI scan followed by the appointment with the Oncologist on the 5th December. So...we're on tenterhooks again (not that we're ever off them it seems)!
Colin and Jane.
